New Dichroic petite cabochons

Petite cabochons

I have been firing some petite cabochons for use in pmc, mosaics and jewelry.

They are about 10 mm size.

Decal Cat cabochon

I have been creating decal cabochons using the following 2 firing schedule

Fusible glass cut into desired shapes, ground and cleaned.

My first firing is to create the base.

250˚ to an arrival temp of 1000˚ (close vent at this time)

300˚ to desired effect 1325˚-1450˚ with a hold time of 10 minutes

asap cool to 960˚ hold for 20 minutes plus depending on the size of the piece

150˚ to 800˚

cool until room temp

2nd Firing

clean well attach decal per manufactures instructions

250˚ to 1000˚ (close vent)

300˚ to 1350˚ to 1415˚ depending on desired effect I like 1350˚

Hold time at arrival temp 8-10 minutes

asap to 960˚ hold here for 20 minutes

150˚ to 800˚

cool until load reaches room temp ( I wait until the kiln temp reads 100˚ before opening)

Remember not to peek under 1000˚ to prevent your work from cracking
